Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy ("Policy") describes how Beam ("Beam," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and otherwise processes information in connection with the Beam mobile and desktop applications, this website, and related services (collectively, the "Services"). Beam is developed and operated by Brian Ruiz.

By accessing or using the Services, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Policy. If you do not agree with this Policy, do not use the Services.

1. Scope

This Policy applies to information processed by Beam in connection with the Services. It does not apply to third-party services, including Apple Inc. ("Apple"), except as described herein. Apple's collection and use of information is governed by Apple's own privacy policies and terms.

2. Definitions

"App Data" means tasks, projects, notes, custom properties, profile information, and other content you create or store in the Beam application.

"Personal Information" means information that identifies, relates to, describes, or could reasonably be linked with you.

3. App Data and iCloud Storage

Beam does not require creation of a separate Beam account. App Data is stored in your personal iCloud account through Apple's CloudKit private database (container identifier: iCloud.br.taskss). App Data is associated with your Apple ID and may sync across devices on which you are signed in to iCloud and have enabled iCloud for Beam.

We do not operate the iCloud infrastructure and do not receive direct access to the contents of your App Data. Apple processes and stores App Data subject to your iCloud account settings and Apple's terms and privacy policies. You may manage or delete App Data through the Beam application and through your device or Apple ID settings.

4. Information We Collect

We may collect the following categories of information:

4.1 Waitlist and Marketing Communications.If you submit your email address through this website's waitlist form, we collect your email address and related signup information for the purpose of sending product announcements and launch-related communications. Waitlist processing is performed through our email service provider, Kit (ConvertKit).

4.2 Communications. If you contact us, we collect the information you provide, which may include your name, email address, and the contents of your message.

4.3 Subscription and Purchase Information. Beam Plus subscriptions are sold through the Apple App Store. Apple processes payment transactions. We may receive subscription entitlement and transaction status information from Apple for the purpose of providing paid features. We do not receive or store payment card numbers or other full payment credentials.

4.4 Website and Technical Information. Our website hosting provider may automatically process limited technical information necessary to deliver the website, such as IP address, browser type, device type, referring URL, and server logs. We do not deploy third-party advertising trackers on this website.

5. Information We Do Not Collect

Except as expressly stated in this Policy, we do not collect or store on our servers:

  • App Data contents, including task, project, or note contents;
  • Beam account credentials, because no separate Beam account is provided;
  • Payment card information;
  • Advertising identifiers for cross-app tracking;
  • Continuous or background precise location history.

6. Device Permissions and Platform Features

The Beam application may request access to certain Apple platform features only if you enable the corresponding functionality:

6.1 Calendar. If enabled, Beam may access calendar events through Apple EventKit to display events in the application and, where available under a paid subscription, export project dates to your calendar. Calendar event data is processed on your device and is not stored in your Beam iCloud App Data.

6.2 Location. If you choose to assign a location to a project property, Beam may request when-in-use location access to assist with location selection. Location information you save is stored as part of App Data in iCloud. Beam does not collect background location data.

6.3 Notifications. If enabled, Beam may schedule local notifications on your device for reminders you configure.

6.4 Siri, Shortcuts, Spotlight, and Widgets. If you use these integrations, Beam may process applicable App Data on your device or through a shared application group container (group.br.taskss) to support widgets and system integrations on that device.

6.5 On-Device Artificial Intelligence.The Beam Assistant feature uses Apple's on-device models to process prompts locally on your device. We do not receive, store, or transmit Beam Assistant chat messages to our servers. Processing is subject to Apple's platform policies and your device settings.

You may revoke applicable permissions at any time through your device settings.

7. Purposes of Processing

We use information we collect for the following purposes:

  • Providing, operating, maintaining, and improving the Services;
  • Communicating with you, including waitlist and support communications;
  • Verifying subscription entitlements;
  • Protecting the security and integrity of the Services;
  • Complying with legal obligations and enforcing our terms.

We do not sell Personal Information. We do not use Personal Information for third-party advertising.

8. Disclosures of Information

We may disclose information as follows:

  • Service Providers. To vendors that perform services on our behalf, such as website hosting (Vercel) and email delivery (Kit), subject to contractual confidentiality and use limitations;
  • Apple.App Data sync, App Store purchases, EventKit, notifications, Siri, and on-device intelligence are provided by Apple under Apple's terms;
  • Legal Compliance and Protection. Where required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or where we believe disclosure is necessary to protect rights, safety, fraud prevention, or the security of the Services.

We do not disclose App Data contents because we do not receive them.

9. Data Retention

We retain waitlist email addresses until you unsubscribe or request deletion, unless a longer retention period is required by law. Support correspondence is retained for as long as reasonably necessary to respond, maintain records, and resolve disputes.

Retention of App Data is controlled by you through the application and your iCloud account. Deletion in the app or removal of iCloud data may not immediately remove all copies from backups or synced devices.

10. Security

We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information we process directly. App Data stored in iCloud is protected by Apple's security measures and your device security controls. No security measure is perfect, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to certain processing of Personal Information we hold directly, and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

To unsubscribe from waitlist emails, use the unsubscribe mechanism in the applicable message. To submit a privacy request, contact us at contact@b-r.io. We may need to verify your request before responding.

12. Children

The Services are not directed to children under 13 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect Personal Information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

13. International Transfers

If you access the Services from outside the United States, you understand that information we process may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in the United States or other jurisdictions where we or our service providers operate, which may have data protection laws different from those in your jurisdiction.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may modify this Policy at any time. The effective date at the top of this page indicates when the Policy was last revised. Material changes will be posted on this page. Your continued use of the Services after the effective date of a revised Policy constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
